Really? Why?

Shaquille O'Neal to Phoenix??

Somebody please tell me how this makes any sense. King? Harris?

This potential trade is almost as crazy as if Chris Webber signed to play with the Warriors or something like that. I mean, think about it, an old post player with no spring in the legs becoming a member of a team that runs constantly and doesnt really ever utilize a halfcourt offense. What? Webber DID sign with GState??

It hasn't been reported, but the Suns have worked out a deal that allows Shaq a Rascal if he needs to get up and down the floor. Granted, it'll be a little tricked out (jet engines I hear) and a little dangerous, but it was either that or a jet pack. Seriously, this trade makes no sense. I think we're witnessing the end of the Shaq era, which is just as well because it's time for the new generation to take over.

The only reason I could see in doing a trade like this is if O'Neal had never won a championship and would be motivated by the thought of a ring. As we know though, Shaq has about four of them.

The idea that the Suns would like to have Shaq is not as troublesome as the thought that they would actually give up Shawn Marion. Not to mention the fact that I'm not completely sure that Shaq can get up the court in 8 seconds on offense.

I think Kelly makes an excellent point: What motivation does Shaq have to get his ass up and down the court and fit in to that offense? None. He's already got four championships. He's just going to be this big, expensive burden on The Suns organization. But you know, I openly made fun of the Celtics for trading away a draft pick for Ray Allen, so what do I know?

The Ray Allen move was part of a bigger plan. But who knew that Danny Ainge had secrets on Kevin McHale that would cause McHale to trade KG to Boston? So i think you, me, and everyone else was right in criticizing the Celts for that initial move.

Shawn Marion is and has been the perfect fit for Phx, but its no secret that he has wanted out of there for a while now. So I dont think its shocking that they're trading him, but for Shaq??

I just cant picture the
Suns having a puzzle in which Shaq would be a critical piece. In addition to him not conceivably fitting in any piece of their gameplan, he has a huge cap # that, unless I'm missing something, will handcuff the organization financially for the next 2 seasons.

I guess this move was made in response to the Lakeshow picking up Pau Gasol. Amare and a healthy Shaq should be able to match up with Bynum and Gasol but that would require the Suns to basically admit they'll never win a title playing an up-and-down style. But without the Matrix I dont think they have enough defense to be able to lock another team down in a halfcourt game. Point is, I just dont get it.

Check out JA Adande's column on ESPN.com. Pretty much sums up my thoughts about this deal. Especially the part about how the Suns are admitting that an NBA team can't win by playing at such a fast pace. So much for the future of the NBA looking bright.

While you mentioned him in the original post and we've yet to mention him in replies, how do you rate C-Webb's career? Yeah, he's made it to all-star teams and you cannot deny his skill set, but coming out of college, he was LeBron or Kobe. To me, he was supposed to revolutionize what a power forward could do. Never made it to a NBA Finals and looking back, that Kings team was one of the better that the NBA has had in a while. I can't say he was a total bust or anything silly like that, but he ranks among the most overrated in my book.

You're right, CWebb is a victim of expectations. From the time we heard about the Fab Five coming to Meeechigan, they were supposed to change the game. Turns out, they kinda did, but only in that they made it ok to wear baggy shorts and play hip hop music during warmups.

From strictly a basketball playing standpoint, CWebb did not revolutionize anything else, but he did have a nice NBA career. Played on a few good teams, was one of the 10 or 12 best players in the league for a few seasons. So I think your assessment of him is about right.

By the way, I dont think it will, but I hope like hell this Shaq in Phx thing works out. I hope he comes back fresh, focused, and healthy and dominates like the Shaq of old. Regardless, the Western Conference playoffs should be incredible this year.

I echo your sentiments about the Diesel. He is such a cool guy that you are almost forced into liking him.

Since 2000, Kevin Garnett is the only MVP that does not figure to be playing in the Western Conference playoffs. Not that great of a stat when you think that Nash and Duncan each won a pair during that period, but still the emergence of the Blazers and Hornets in the West has led me to believe in this conference more than a year ago. The Jazz were in the Conference finals a year ago. Yuck.
